DEDICATION
The story of the pioneer is always a thrilling chapter in American history. From the
Appalachian Mountains to the Pacific Ocean, every section of our nation has had its
pioneers, and every section has been, at one time or another, the western frontier of
America. Bosque County in the heart of Central Texas is no exception.
In Chapter I. of this book Dr. William C. Pool has traced the development of this frontier,
and it is to these intrepid pioneers that we first turn our thoughts. They were seeking a
new life, a life free from pressures and afflicitions endured in their homelands. But it was
not easy.
Some sailed the Atlantic, others trudged on foot and came by ox cart into the untamed
Bosque Territory, the land yet to become a county. These hardy souls brought with them
only necessities - clothing, farm tools, and means of subsistence during the first year.
Their personal qualities helped them to endure - courage, self-confidence, ability to work,
and above all, faith in God. They built crude homes and improved them as they could,
they planted and reaped, and they, in time, overcame hardships of frontier life.
Those Bosque County pioneers laid the foundation. They planted the seed which
germinated into the Christian community which has grown and prospered for more than
one hundred and thirty years. They were dedicated to building a better place to live for
themselves and for succeeding generations.
It is appropriate that this book, the story of our heritage, be dedicated toBosque County Pioneers.
