The county has been prosperous in the past, and agri-
culturally speaking, the future looks as bright here as
in any part of Texas, but the time has arrived when the
proper utilization of the land is a serious and all-im-
portant problem. Erosion is the greatest enemy of the
farmer. There are now about thirty-five million acres
of American farmlands abandoned because of erosion.
It is said the people of America lose four hundred mil-
lion dollars each year because people remain indifferent
to the checking of erosion. Farmers in our country are
cent of Texas shows erosion and that fully ten million
abandoning crop land at the rate of one hundred thou-
sand acres each year. A statement has been made by
H. H. Bennett of the U. S. Soil Bureau that 65 per
acres of Texas land have been ruined for practical cul-
tivation. May Denton County continue with the splen-
