DENTON COUNTY AS A WHOLE
The total valuation of all farms and all farm prop-
erty is placed at $37,078,618. Out of that amount there
is $5,205,675 estimated to be the value of buildings,
etc; land valuation being $31,872,943. On this basis
the average value per farm would be $9,574. Prices
on individual farms necessarily vary according to loca-
tion, topography, nature of soil, distance from town and
from railroad.
The control of erosion is the first and most essential
step in proper land utilization in any county. About
90 per cent of the county needs strip cropping. About
65 or 70 per cent of Denton county would profit by
terracing when possibly only about 15 per cent of the
county is terraced at present. This ratio is destined to
change rapidly, for in the summer of 1935 a C. C. C.
camp was established in Denton with an enrollment of
nearly two hundred men. The men of Denton County
are showing much genuine interest in the work. The
total number of members in the Denton County Soil
Conservation Association on December 23, 1935 was
289 members. One of the major objectives of this
particular C. C. C. camp is soil conservation. This will
call for much terracing of land. As previously stated,
the county is in a mature stage of erosion and the fol-
lowing information on altitudes for various parts of the
county will show something of the relationship between
soil wash and terracing needs:
