resources and possibilities, to get an understanding of
the early settlers and the hardships they endured,-
these should bring a greater pride and appreciation for
the region in which one lives and makes his living.
Every one in the county would be happier and more
useful to the community if he knew the geographic
background of his county. The study of Denton
County in north central Texas has been made with two
objectives in mind; first, to furnish a source of material
on Denton County; second, to give teachers and pros-
pective teachers a study of a county which may be used
as an example for studies in other counties. In the
back of the book in Chapter Four will be found Sug-
gestions to Teachers. These suggestions give notes as
to how the book may be used with children. Any
teacher interested in this material can easily make
check tests and study questions for the various chapters.
In the same chapter is a game for pupils. A glossary
has been placed in the back of the book for the conven-
ience of those who may care to use it.
In 1936, Texas celebrated the Centennial. May her
many citizens renew their interest in the study of their.
