ous Complcto euro In five necks
Our oldest child now six years of age when
an infant six months old was attacked with a
virulent malignant skin disease All ordinary
remedies failing we called our family physician
who attempted to cure it bat it spread with
almost incredible rapidity until the lower por-
tion of the little fellows person from the middle
of his back down to his knees was one solid
rash ugly painful blotched and malicious
We had no rest at night no peace by day
Finally we were advised to try the Cuticuea
Rejieoies The effect was simply marvellous
In three or four weeks a complete core was
wrought leaving the little fellows person as
white and healthy as though he had never been
attacked In my opinion your valuable remedies
saved his life and today he is a strong
healthy child perfectly well no repetition of the
disease having ever occurred

Tlie Investigation of the Beef Combine
is soJFar Barren of Sesults
Yarlons Causes Assigned for the Present De-
pressed Condition of the Cattle Market
General Notes
The stockyards in the city are well sup-
plied with good fat beef cattle
±
Pat Wolford is down from tho Panhan-
dle and reports cattle in fine shape
The cattle m arteet continues dull but
there are indications that it will expe-
rience a revival soon
A gentleman named Bryson of Shreve-
port was in the city yesterday wishing to
buy a carload of Texas mares for breed-
ing purposes He will probably secure
them today
Last week a sale of 1200 three and four
yearold steers was made in Brackett by
the Dolores land and cattle company for
822800 or an average of 19 per head
The cattle are to be delivered in April
The Wilcox A T Stockman is au-
thority for the statement that the Stan-
dard cattle company of Arizona and
Texas will have 12000 heifers spayed
during the coining spring This is prob-
ably an exaggeration
Pasturage in the Indian Territory be-
ing 50 per cent higher this year than
it was last it is feared will cause stock-
men to overstock their ranges in order
to get even and thereby cause a deterior-
ation in the condition of their stock
Of the 43000000 or more of cattle in
the United States Texas is estimated to
have 472i053 the value of < which
reaches the sum of 6651S860 There
are more cattle in Texas than in any
other state but in value iSTew York Il-
linois and Iowa lead
There is money in fat hogs now
6aid a leading stockman yesterday If
men who are breeding cattle will carry a
stock of hogs along with it and ship them
to Mexico they will do well Good fat
hogs are bringing good prices there and
I dont see why people dont catch on
From Big Beud W T the advices
are that the loss on range cattle this
winter will foot up 70 per ceut
while tho losses on range horses will foot
up 25 per cent This loss is not
attributable to tho weather but to the
fact that that country is rapidly settling
up causing the big rauges to be cut
down
The Northwestern Live Stock Journal
published at Cheyenne WyT notes
the fact that a large number of cattlemen
from that seetion have gone south for the
purpose of contracting for the delivery of
stock on their ranges and say that tho
present year will not witness such a de-
crease in the purchase of Southern stock
as might be supposed
In answer to an inquiry as to why there
were not more shipments east of beef
cattle a shipper yesterday said that
cattlemen were afraid of the eastern
markets They will v report good
markets and good prices there said
he but when a consignment of cattle
Tenches the Chicago or St Louis yards
down go the prices and the shipper is
left This causes mauy who have fine
fat beeves not to ship from Texas
John Harris manager of the Seven
Elvers cattle company has fenced in
5000 acres of land on the river about
three miles north of Colorado City for
the purpose of starting a fine stock farm
for the breeding of Hereford cattle He
has been raising Herefords at the Pecos
ranch for poiEe years and has found it to
pay so well that he concluded to start his
new farm He will plow up 100
acres which will be planted in oats sor-
ghum and millet to feed cattle with next
winter
A special telegram from Topeka in the
Kansas City Times states that no evi-
dence of a beef combine of the puckers
has been discovered by the senate com-
mittee appointed to investigate and re-
port on the matter and that a report to
that effect will bo made to the senate If
the investigations of the committee have
been thoiough aud complete resulting in
the failure to find the slightest evidence
of the unholy combination about which
so much has been said and published
and if in fact no such combination ex-
ists what will the St Louis convention
which meets on the 12th of March have
to do
The DroversJournal referring to the
present condition of the cattle market
says that one thing that is the matter
with it is Feeders used to take at least
six months to fatten a drove of cattle
Now a man turns out two feed lots of
several hundred each in that time and
commences on 800 fresh eattle Another
thing that is the matter with the cattle
market just now This winter there has
hardly been a day when cattle with fairly
good care would not gain two aud a half
pounds per head while in ordinary win-
ters there are usually two months in
which cattle will eat full feed and not
make any gain iu weight This makes a-
gain of 100 to 200 pounds per steer on two
months aloue This on the total number
of cattle feeding is no small item
Hair balls are found in the stomachs of
cattle of all ages and in sheep aud goats
They aro produced by the animals licking
themselves or one another and swallow-
ing the hair that is loosened in this way
The hair enters the folds of the recticu
lum tho second stomach where the pe-
culiar movement of this organ soon forms
it into a ball which as time passes
grows larger by accumulation These
balls vary in size from one inch in diame-
ter up to three inches or even more We
have seen one whicli was formed in the
stomach of a buffalo and was five inches
in diameter Iu somo cases these pre-
sent a rough surface hair sticking out
all over them and in others they are
smooth having been longer iu the stom-
ach wherethey have been coated over
with salts of lime etc It is not a iys
easy to determine whether these balls are
present They cause indigestion and
the animal shows a depraved appetite
Frequent attacks of colic are often tho
result of these concretions in the stom-
ach Ifo way has yet been found for re-
moving them and where they increase
in size rapidly they sometimes prevent
the passage of foo into the intestines
and cause the death of tho animal

THE WEATHER
The Storm Which Has Been Raging for Five
Days Has Spent its Force In the South
Special to the Gazette
Galveston Tex Feb 19 The storm
which has been raging during the past
live days has moved beyond the limits of
our stations of observation and is now
probably central off tho coast of Nova
Scotia In the gulf and South Atlantic
states the weather is generally cloudy
Snow is reported at Buffalo N T and
Cheyenne Wy T Elsewhere fair
weather prevails Decidedly cold air
Over lies the districts west aud southwest
the temperature ranging from 4 below
zero in Kansas to 26 below in Minnesota
The temperature is below freezing in all
districts north of the isothermal line of 30
deg which runs from Massachusetts
southwest to Georgia thence westward
through the gulf states and Texas to the
Rio Grande valley The precipitation
during the last twentyfour hours was
confined to the districts east of the Mis-
sissippi principally in Eastern states and
along the Atlantic coast The conditions
favor continued cool and fair weather in
Texas followed tonight Wednesday and
Thursday by local rain in some portions
of the state principally in the south and
southwest Probably a little warmer
The conditions are such however as to
preclude very accurate conjectures
