Editor’s note: Although it is
our policy not to publish letters
not signed, the comments
expressed in the following
letter are ones we hear so
often and the suggestion to
make Palacios beautiful is a
good one, I am publishing the
letter.
Open letter to Community
Leaders and Citizens of Pala-
cios:
I am a “transplant” in
Palacios because of my hus-
band's work and small town
living is a brand new experi-
ence to our family. We are
home owners here in Palacios
and consider this our home
and would like to say with
pride--”We’re from Pala-
cios.”
As I looked about me
recently, I was shocked to see
our community looking so
shabby. Have you really
looked at our town lately?
Coming into Palacios you
see over-grown fields, unkept
streets, street signs about to
fall on their faces, junk cars,
trash littering out neighbor-
hoods and a general feeling of
“So what?”
Was it just one year ago our
town “cleaned house” and
prepared so beautifully for our
international guest at the
World Peace Conference?
Must we wait for company to
put forth our best?
Perhaps its time people of
Palacios begin looking around
and starting in their own
yard-begin to take pride in
their community.
Wouldn’t it be terrific if our
many travelers who pass
through our town on Hwy. 35
could remark, what a beartiful,
clean, neat little town that is.
Perhaps we should stop and
visit for a while. And perhaps
then, when we’re away from
home and we’re asked “where
are you from” we could
proudly say-’Tm from that
beautiful city by the sea-Pala-
cios.”
Community leaders-why
not start a “Let’s Make
Palacios Beautiful” cam-
paign? Would we all not
benefit from it? You might be
surprised how many citizens
would respond!
Just one concerned resident!
