Break begins March 18
For those who have wondered why NT has its spring break a week
after most state schools, Leona Weedon of the Administrative Service
Office said NT correlates spring break with the Denton Independent School
District, Texas Woman's University and East Texas State University.
NT's spring break is March 18-24 this year and Weedon said it’s because
TWU, ETSU. DISD and NT agreed to have spring break at that time.
Texas Christian University and UT-Arlington will also have their spring
break March I8-24. whereas colleges such as UT-Austin and Texas A&M
will hold their spring break March 11 -17.
NT has a choice on whether to have spring break before or after mid-
semester. she said.
House to skip arms talks
WASHINGTON (AK)House Majority Leader Jim Wright, accusing the
Reagan administration of playing partisan politics with the U.S. nuclear
amis talks in Geneva, said Monday he is withdrawing a 16-member House
delegation of observers from the talks.
"We don't mind being used by the administration if it serves the national
purpose," he told a news conference. "But we don't want to be used and
abused at the same time. As of now, we’re not going."
Wright, D-Texas. said Saturday that he was considering a possible House-
boycott of the talks after published reports indicated that top administra-
tion officials were unhappy about the si/c of the House delegation and the
fact that some members planned to bring spouses.
Houston lawyer protests law
NEW ORLEANS (AIM- Forcing Bernard and Odette Port to testify against
their son in a murder investigation would be as if they were compelled to
"assist the state in killing their child," a Houston attorney told the 5th
U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals this week.
The lawyer, Kandy Schaffer, told a three-judge panel of the appeals
court that there should be a law to protect the parent-child relationship
just as there is to allow one spouse not to testify against the other.
Bernard and Odette Port are the father and stepmother of David Port.

Debra Sue Schatz, 23.
Accounting
sponsors
seminars
By MARCHENE HUDSON
Daily Reporter
Two members of the Financial Accounting Standards
Board will present seminars on accounting procedures
today.
The first program will be presented at 2 p.m. in Busi-
ness Building 176 on a number of current technical
areas including employee pension costs, accounting for
income taxes, accounting for changing prices, report-
ing of cash-flow information and consolidation in the
equity method.
The second program, to be presented at 6:30 p.m. in
Business Building II6, will include movies and slide
presentations on the structure of the board and the board's
relationships with the Securities and Exchange Com-
mission and the accounting profession.
The seminars will be presented by board members
AI Recce and Laura Neuberger. The seminars are pre-
sented by business fraternity Beta Alpha Psi and the
accounting department.
The board develops standards for the accounting pro-
fession and is the policy-making board for professional
accountants, said Dr Ted Skekel, faculty vice presi-
dent of Beta Alpha Psi.
Skekel said the programs will be taped and broad-
cast over the Association of Graduate Education Research
network system.
The board asked to present its programs at NT as
part of a Metroplcx tour. Neuberger and Reece were at
Baylor University Monday and will be at UT-Arlington
Wednesday.
Skekel said the board annually selects certain areas
of the country to tour. On these tours the board distrib-
utes and gathers information about accounting proce-
dures and the board.
Recruiting is also a part of the tour. Skekel said.
The board tries to interest future graduates in working
for them. It is a private foundation with research offices
in Stamford, Conn.
The purpose of the board is to identify problem areas
in accounting that need reviewing. With the help of a
large research staff, it gathers facts and tries to identify
all alternate solutions to the problems, Skekel said.
