On the second day's journey he receved communications from
Mr. Sesma, in which he advised that part of his division bad already
crossed the Colorado, but ttlt as this river had greatly
incre, op account of the raian,id that the means of crossing
it W very scarce, the transporting the troops, cannon, ammunition,
that
nevertheless, he omitted nothing to hasten an operation attended
with so much risk.
The 2d of April tw arrived at Gonzales; the river was
.swollen, and it was nepsay .to copstruct a raft to pass it, leaving to me
the charge of the operation of passing the river. On the 5th he
arrived at a place on the Colorado called Paso del Atascosito,
and on the 6th he continued with the division of Messrs. Sesma
and Tolsa to San Felipe, where he arrived on the 7th, having
left Mr. Well at said Atascosito with a hattalion and a picket of
cavalry, with the object of constructing a raft to be enabled to
pas over the river the artillery, the twelve waons, and the
ammunition, on the 11th he arrived at Old Fort, 16 leagues. ditant
from San Felipe, and from thence he ordered on the same date
Mr. Sesma and myself to direct ourselves to that point tojoin
him; on the 13th Mr.,Sesma did so; and on the 14th his Excellency,
without waiting for me, with only a few more than 700
