From the age of twelve to the
age of twenty two, I made a crop
every year in the spring and as-
sisted in gathering it in the late
summer and early fall, and since
I have been engaged in the
practice of the profession of law,
I have invested my savings in
farms, and am a producer—not
a Middh man.
My opponent never did a
single day s work on the farm,
and I maintain that from the
character of my experience and
my present relations to agricul
tural interests, I am in position
to be, and am in vital sympathy
with the farming element.
It is doubtless true that Mr.
Templeman is a business man in
the sense that he has gathered
to himseif large possessions; but
after all is that the kind of a
business man who would be cal
culated to make the best repre
seutative in the State Senate of
Texasr He who spake as never
man spake said, “A man s life
consisteth notin the abundance
of the things which he possess
cth." Again, another has truly
said ‘ The measure of a life is its
service.”
The true test of one’s fitness
to represent you in the Legisla
ture is not bound up in his abili
ty to make money as a business
man, or in the fact that he is a
lawyer or a farmer, but the
questions you will determine
are. is the candidate honest, is
he competent, is he faithful. If
ali these questions can be an
ewered in the affirmative as re-
spects both mv opponent and
myself, then the only other
question for you to determine is,
which of the two is better equip
Today Congressman Gregg is
better equipped to serve the peo
pie of his district than at any
time in the past. Aside from
his recognized ability and his un-
swerving fidelity to the interests
of his district, Congressman
Gregg's thorough knowledge of
local needs and pending meas-
ures, his extensive acquaintance-
ship, due to long service in Con
gress. and his constantly grow-
ing influence, render his re elec-
tion a matter of paramount inter-
est.
It would indeed be a serious
mistake at this particular time
to make a change in our Congres-
sional representative. We can-
not afford to swap horses while
crossing the stream.
The personal political ambi-
tion of self seekers of public of-
fice should not be considered
when the welfare of the people
as a whole is at stake. It re-
quires years of service in Con-
gress for a representative to be-
come known and influential.
’ We earnestly appeal to every
Democratic voter of Galveston
county who has its best interest
and welfare at heart to vote for
the re-election of Hon. A. W.
Gregg.
