a lung puncture
Mrs Kirk was In Dallas at
the time of the accident attend-
ing a funeral She returned im-
mediately by plane
Mr Kirk Is pastor of the First
Methodist church at Midland
They made their home at Perry
ton for many years and are welt
known here
Little Delane Clay of Twitty
fiveyearold grandaughter of
Mr and Mrs W D Prater 904
N Main Shamrock narrowly
missed death Wednesday when
she was knocked down and run
over by a trailer on the back
of her grandfathers truck
Mr Prater had warned Delane
and her little threeyearold
sister to stand back Wednesday
before he left his t house right
after dinner to get a load of
cotton Delane in some way got
under the wheels and was run
over by the trailer when he
started Mr Prater did not
notice that anything had hap
pened and drove on out ot
town

Mrs Clay who was visiting
Inside with her mother looked
out of the window and saw by
the threeyearolds actions that
something was wrong Something
has Delane 1
thing happened to
she cried and the two ladles
rushed outside and found the
child unconscious and apparent-
ly In pretty bad shape
They rushed Delane to the
general hospital In Shamrock
where it was found that her
condition was Indeed serious
She was suffering from shock a
bad bruise on her head and
other injuries
The child was In a critical
condition Wednesday night and
Thursday but has been improv
ing since It Is thought she may
be able to leave the hospital
about the middle of the week
Mr Prater did not learn of
the accident until he returned
to townseveral hours later

getting along nicely now after
accidentally shooting hlmself

Canadian Boy On
Boys Ranch Eleven
Arthur Martin of Canadian
has received the honor of belnjr
named on the Roughrlders the
first boys ranch football team
In America The team is made
up of twentyeight boys from
six states who make their home
at Boys Ranch located forty
miles northwest of Amarlllo
Sports are an Important part
of the boys activities The
Ranch offers a wellrounded
sports program but at this time
ot year football holds the spot-
light
The other Ranchers are as in-
terested In the team and the
games as the ones who play
They attend every game and are
enthusiastic rooters along with
many other Boys Ranch fans
who attend the games
Football is always a popular
topic of discussion among tho
nearly two hundred boys who
live at the Ranch and almost
all ot them enjoy getting out
and tossing the pigskin around
In their spare time
The Ranch provides its own
football field for games played
at the Ranch The team also
makes trips to meet the other
teams on their home fields
The Boys Ranch Roughrlders
have done well this year in their
games with class A and AA
teams They are coached by
Leon Tedder and the athletic
director Is Shields Mitchell
This football team has been
organized for only a few years
but they have built up the rep-
utation In this area ot having a
good team and a fine bunch of
young athletes Several ex
Ranchers have gone on to play
college football after graduating
from high school at the Ranch

Raymond In Recital
La Juana Ballard Jeannette
Raymond and Jan Waters
pupils of Mrs Madeline Hen
shaw of Perryton were pre-
sented In a muslcale here at
the First Baptist church Tues
day night by the Womans club
La Juana played several organ
selections including Were You
ThereT Barcarolle and
Theme She was followed on
the program by Jan who played
Wood Magic and Drink To
Me on the harp She later
favored the group with other
harp numbers and two selections
on the organ Jeannette played
a group of organ numbers in-
cluding Antique Dance Lle
bestraum and Salut D Amor
Interspersed among the above
selections were vocal numbers i
by Mrs Rutus Bolerjack ot
Perryton She was accompanied
on the organ by Mrs Henshaw
Stolen Cars
A 1947 Kaiser belonging to
Essie Todd of Canadian was to
ported stolen to local officers
during the week It was located
at Borger immediately after
broadcasting the pickup brder
Local officers found two
stolen cars during the week
Both of them belonged to Ama
rlllo men One a 1951 Bulck
was found about seven miles
out on the road to Glazier The
other a 1950 Mercury was found
about fifteen miles from here on
the Miami highway
All cars had been driven until
they ran out of gas and then
abandoned r
Doyle Bettises Back
After Wedding Trip
Mr and Mrs Doyle Bettls are
home from their wedding trip to
points in New Mexico and Colorado
The young couple were married at
he First Baptist church at Qhattuek
recently by tho pastor the Rev
Louis Hancock They were attended
by the brides sister Miss Bytvta
