V/J Willie, a Girl from a lbwn Called Dallas.
WILLIE NEWBURY LEWIS
This is the story of Willie, a twenty-year-old
Dallas debutante loved and protected by her family,
and Will, a forty-two-year-old cattle rancher, who
began as a cowboy and eventually amassed a fortune
in cattle and ranchland. It is a saga of a Victorian
marriage and of a woman who was discouraged from
using her intelligence to the fullest, of the conflicts
in life-styles, the tug-of-war for the children, his
yearning for immortality, and her desire to be included.

Texas Quilts, Texas Women. SUZANNE YABSLEY
Every quilt ever made tells a story to those who
know how to read it. Suzanne Yabsley relates and
interprets many of these stories-what quilts have
meant to Texas women, how life in Texas has influenced
the way they made their quilts, and how Texas
folk art and culture have embodied and expressed
Lone Star history. Handsome photographs and the
author's skillful blending of folklore and history
make this a valuable contribution to Texana literature,
women's studies, and the quilter's how-to library.

Frontier Women. Edited by Jo ELLA POWELL EXLEY
Texas Tears, Texas Sunshine-familiar names of
quilts pieced by frontier women. Here Jo Ella Exley
pieces together sixteen scraps from Texas' history
with eyewitness accounts of events ranging from
fighting yellow fever to honeymooning on a trail
drive, from fighting Indians to pre-Civil War descriptions
of plantation life. Some delightfully witty, others
gruesome or understatedly horrifying, each account
provides a vividly personal, provocatively different
perspective on the state's history. 264 pp.

Interwoven: A Pioneer Chronicle.
SALLIE REYNOLDS MATTHEWS. Drawings by
E. M. "BUCK" SCHIWETZ
".... an American classic, certain to be preserved.....
"-Dallas Morning News. As daughter, sister,
wife, or mother of three generations of cattlemen,
Sallie Reynolds Matthews tells of growing up
near the banks of the Brazos River and of pioneer life
on the Lambshead range. This story of the interwoven
Reynolds and Matthews families is also a window
into the personality and character of an exceptional
woman, whose intelligence, warmth, and zest
for life enabled her to sensitively convey a clear
description of life during this period. 248 pp. Illus.
