Women waged a 20-year battle so young women
like this student could attend a state school for
women. They won and now Texas Woman's University
in Denton is the nation's largest woman's
college. When the doors opened in 1903, three
women became the first to serve on a Texas college
board of regents. They were Helen Stoddard,
Eleanor Brackenridge, and Birdie Johnson.
