THA anti-trust bill passed the
senate Tuesday.
THE governor has signed the
Dallas charter, which is now a
law.
BRYAN'S majority of the popular
vote over McKinley was over
half a million.
THE state reformatory at Gatesville
was destroyed by fire Monday
night. The loss is estimated
at $30,000. No insurance.
PEACE negotiations between

THE Hill Couxnty Record, Vol.
1, No. 1, published at Hillsboro,
14 B: Jones editor and proprietor,
is, before us. The Record is a
neat, well-edited ,6-column quarto
and knowing the "power behind
the throne" THE WHEEL bespeaks
for it a successful career.
THE court that found Quay
"not guilty"-and the Pennsylvania
governor who immediately
appointed him to a seat in the
United States senate sacrificed
their honor at the shrine of personal
prestage and the power of
money. The one is a traitor to
justice:and the. other to his coErtry.
TiIE promised; wave of pxwo;-.
perity in the way of a general increase
in the wages of labor in
the event of McKinley's election
was long in coming, but is being
realized of late in view of the
approach of the next general
election. The republican wire
pullers-the tools of monopolies
and trusts-are baiting to catch
the American masses in 1900.
After the result of next years
campaign a general reduction in
the wages of labor will follow as
surely as darkness follows day.
IN this country there are courts
and courts-courts of justice and
whitewash courts-and it seems
the latter are getting to be the
most common. One of the latest
and most conspicuous examples
of the whitewash kind was
the Pennsylvania farce that put
a senatorial robe on a penitentiary
subject. But the most striking
example was the beef court
of inquiry whose report was so
directly opposite the result justified
by the testimony and the coat
of whitewash for Eagan so rediculously
transparent that it failed
to provoke serious comment,
but when referred to only calls
forth a contemptuous laugh.

drove bver to Ind<ia:
Tuesday afternoon On a: business
jaunt. The latest acquisition to
that village is Dr. W. H. Kincaid
with a stock of drugs. There is
a prospect we learned of another
business there soon to quench
the thirst of those whom water
will not satisfy, but the prospect
did not seem to meet with unanimous
approval. The continuation
of the post office there is
still a question, as no one has yet
volunteered to attend to Uncle
Sam's business at that point.
The probability of a new store
being opened up there was mentioned,
but developments in that
direction do not seem sufficient
yet to justify giving the particulars.
After a successful session,
Profs. Myers and Reed were making
the necessary preparations
for the close of their school Friday,
the 12th, for which an interesting
program was being arranged
for Friday night for the en
tertainment of the visiting patrons
and friends.
From India we drove across
the country to Clemma and noticed
that the farmers were busy
ploughing and chopping corn
and cotton, which along with
wheat and oat crops were looking
well and showed the crop
prospect so far to be good.
Reaching Clemma, the biggest
town to its size on the Central
railroad, we found, the hamlet as,
usual with "no grounds fo, complaipt,"
three or four merchants
with nice stocks of goods and W.
S. Johnsoa's new brick nearing
completion.
On the rounds several friends,
who were not doing so accepted
our invitation to become regular
readers.of THiE WHEEL.
Mr. J. H. Holloway, one of our
poineer citizens, reached his
three score years and ten, Wednesday,
the 1:0th, and the, event
was made to him pleasant and
long to be remembered by his
four children here, Thos. W. and
Joe B. Holloway, Mrs. C. A.
Weatherford, Miss Mattie Holloway,
and last but not least, his
aged better-half. They prepareda, surprise for him in the way of
' a sumptuous dinner and the three
married children with their families
assembled at the father's
house at the. noon hour and all
feasted and rejoiced together.
After dinner each of the children
presented their father with some
nice, useful gift as a birthday
present.
No Right to Ugliness.
The woman who is lovely in face
form and temper will always have
friends, but one who would be attractive
must keep her health. If
she is weak, sickly and all run down,
she will be nervous and irritable. If
she has constipation or kidney trouble,
her impure blood will cause
pimples, blotches, skin eruptions and
a wretched complexion. Electric
Bitters is the best medicine in the
world to regulate stomach, liver and
kidneys and to purify the blood. It
gives strong nerves, bright eyes,
smooth, 'velvety skin, rich complexion.
It will make a good-looking,
charming woman of a run-down invalid.

Mort Hawkins announced to
quite a number of persons that
he would talk at night about an
acquaintance of theirs. They
were at church of course, whether
they ever were before or not, to
see what the preacher would
have to say about their friend.
