Af.-Beginning of Junior Seminary Greek.
Two years of Greek are necessary to enter this course. Students
with a grade of ninety or more in Greek 115, 125, and 135
and in Preparatory Greek, 112, 122, and 132 may take this
course; it is urged that they take also either the three-hour or
the two-hour courses mentioned above. The two-hour courses
may be taken in the same year as this course, under certain circumstances.Mark is the basis of work for this term. Reading of the Gospel
of John is required as parallel. Short reading will be made
in Luke. The Gospel of Mark is outlined by the students, and
from research in lexicons and commentaries notes are made
in connection with the outline. Robertson's Short Grammar of
the Greek New Testament is used in connection with Goodwin's
text. Weekly exercises are required in composition. Word formation
and etymology are leading points. Swete's text is used.
Same as Greek 343. Three times a week.
Aw.-This course is a continuation of Greek Af. Robertson's
Short Grammar of the Greek New Testament is completed. Westcott
and Hort's text of the Greek is used in all New Testament
courses. Thayer's lexicon is likewise required for all New Testament
Greek courses. More attention is given to exegetical work.
Two of the Minor Epistles will be outlined and studied closely.
The historical connections will be pointed out, especially those
in Paul's own life in his work as an apostle. Philippians and
Ephesians will usually be selected. The required parallel is the
Gospel of Matthew. Same as Greek 353. Three hours a week.
As.-The book of Hebrews is studied closely. The same books
and plans are used here as in other A courses, but the work is of
more advanced type. This epistle calls for literary taste. Westcott's
text will be used by the class. Study from the Expositor's
Greek Testament from the Cambridge text, and from other sources
will be required. Old Testament connections will be touched as
the theme develops. The required parallel is the Gospel of Luke.
Same as Greek 363. Three hours a week.
Bf.-Courses Bf, Bw and Bs make a year of advanced Greek
for seniors or graduates. Robertson's Grammar of Greek New
Testament in the Light of Historical Research is the main part of
the first two quarters (Greek Bf and Bw). In connection with
the early part of the Grammar the class reads from Milligan's
Greek papyri. Selections may also be made from the LXX, toSEISSION OF 1922-'23
