COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES
CLASSIFICATION OF STUDENTS.
1. Regular.-A regular student is one who is taking at least
twelve hours of recitation per week and who conforms to the requirements
leading to a degree.
Regular students are ranked according to the amount of work
they have previously done. The ranks are as follows:
(1) Fourteen entrance units, "Conditional Freshmen."
(2) Fifteen entrance units, "Freshmen."
(3) Fifteen entrance units and as many as nine majors,
"Sophomore."
(4) Full entrance and as many as eighteen majors, "Juniors."(5) Full entrance and as many as twenty-seven majors,
"Senior."
2. Irregular.-A student is considered "irregular" when he
is taking the full amount of work but is not meeting the requirements
for a degree.
(In case an irregular student later desires to meet the requirements
for a degree, he must satisfy all entrance requirements before being given
college credit on work done.)
3. Special.-All students who take less than the minimum
amount of work are classed as "special." Only those who have
the consent of their parents or who are twenty-one years of age
will be permitted to exercise this privilege. These students must
maintain good conduct and make acceptable grades, otherwise
the privilege will be withdrawn.
DEFINITION OF MAJORS
A college major shall consist of sixty recitation-hours. A
course which meets twice per week for twelve weeks will constitute
two-fifths of a major; one that meets three times per week
for twelve weeks will constitute three-fifths of a major. In case
of a laboratory course, two hours in the laboratory will be
equivalent to one hour of recitation.
All college courses are designated by a number of three digits.
All courses whose hundred's digit is 1 are elementary and open
to freshmen and sophomores; those whose hundred's digit is 2,
are intermediate and open to sophomores and juniors; those
whose hundred's digit is 3, are advanced and open to juniors and
seniors.33
