Correct pronunciation insisted upon from the first. The vocabularies,
idioms, and gramatical principles are fixed in the memory
by intensive use of Spanish conversation; this causes the student
to acquire a living language, not a mere book-language. The
class will read such short stories, novels, and plays, as best show
forth Spanish and Spanish-American life, customs, and ideals.
Each student will be required to, read during the year at least one
book from the Library on these customs, manners, and ideals,
as collateral reading.

225.-Spanish Masterpieces. Study of the best Spanish
drama, novels, poetry. Spanish composition and oral reproduction
in Spanish. Conducted chiefly in Spanish.
Prerequisites for 300 courses, Spanish 215, 225, or 235.
313.-Cervantes and other prose writers of the Golden Age.
362.-Teachers' Course. The Spanish language, its origins
and developments. Readings of Old Spanish selections such as
Ford's Old Spanish Readings.
Other courses in Spanish or courses in French or German
will be given if there is sufficient demand for them. Courses
in Latin may also be given.18
