Syllabus of Courses
I. DEPARTMENT OF THE BIBLE
143. A Survey Course of the Books of the Bible, Genesis
to Job. The three courses numbers 143, 153 and 163 constitute
a survey of the books of the Old and New Testament. Lectures
are given on the content and message of each book. The course
is introductory in its nature and furnishes a telescopic view of
the literature and history of the Bible. This greatest Book is
presented as the Word of God. Its fundamental teachings are
stressed and its great characters set forth. The beauty and the
power of God's message is presented to the class and all are encouraged
to make the Bible the guide of their personal lives.
The Bible is the Text book. Outside reading throwing light
upon the geography and history of the Bible is assigned from
time to time. All students are given the opportunity of asking
questions and presenting their personal problems.
243.-A Study of the Life of Jesus. This course presents
the material of the four gospel accounts in detail and undertakes
a genuine understanding of the content of each book and a view
of the whole material as presenting personality, life and teaching
of Jesus, the Christ, the Son of God. The gospel according to
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John constitute the basis of the study,
together with lectures, assigned reading, class discussion and
papers. This is fundamentally a presentation of the content
rather than a course dealing with the application of Christ's
teaching.
253.-Acts and the Epistles of Paul to Hebrews. This
course is a study of the establishment and development of the
Church of God. Special emphasis is placed upon the progress
of missionary work. An effort is made to bring in the Epistles
at the time they are written. An analysis of each is made and
its relationship to the progress of Christianity stressed. This
course is vitally connected with the study of the life of Christ
and shows the direct influence of his life and teaching and the
guidance of the Holy Spirit as manifested in the early church.
263.-Hebrews, the General Epistles and Revelation. This
course is a further study of the letters written to early Christians
under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and the application of the
messages of these letters to present day problems. This series
of courses gives a thorough study of the content of the books of
the New Testament in a somewhat microscopic manner.12
