are advised to do this reading during the preceding Summer vacation.
Course 4.-Payne's Learn to Spell completed; Wooley's Handbook.
Twelve short themes and six long ones.
Long's English Literature.
Class-room study: Burke's Speech on Conciliation; Shakespeare's
Macbeth; Browning, Selected Poems; Scott's Ivanhoe; Dicken's Tale
of Two Cities; Blackmore's Lorna Doone; Selected English Lyrics;
Magazine readings. Two selections memorized each month.
Six books from the eleventh grade list as parallel reading. Students
are advised to do this reading during the preceding Summer
vacation.
FRENCH
Course 1.-Pronunciation, dictation, conversation, thorough drill in
the essentials of French grammar, selected French readings. Much
attention will be given to correct and fluent pronunciation and as
much conversation will be required as possible, especially about the
objects and actions of everyday life. This course must be well done
for it is the foundation of all later work in French. Plan to do
thorough work.
Course 2.-Continuation of Course 1. The grammar completed and
reviewed. Selected readings, especially those texts that represent
scenes of daily life, French customs, ideals, etc. More conversation
than in Course 1.

Course 1.-Ancient History. Text, Breasted's Ancient Times;
Foster's Outlines.
Reference Reading: Fling, Source Book of Greek History; Munroe,
Source Book of Roman History; Morey, Ancient History; Webster;
Ancient History; Breasted, Ancient History.
Course 2.-Medieval and Modern History. Text, West; Foster's
Outlines.
Reference Reading: Robinson's Readings in European History;
Emerton, Introduction to the Middle Ages; Bryce, Holy Roman Empire.Course 3.-(a) American History. Text, Stephenson, "Outline
