GENERAL STATEMENT
The College and Academy are separate to the extent of separate
periods and faculties. The separation will mean a great deal to each
division. Each department will be strengthened.
In many sections of Texas the young people do not have the advantage
of a high school. There are parents, too, who prefer to have
their children brought up in Christian environment and under Christian
teachers. To meet these needs an Academy is maintained in the
Abilene Christian College buildings.
The work is thorough and genuine. The Academy is not affiliated
with the other colleges in Texas. There is no like academy that is
affiliated. The Academy of Abilene Christian College will be affiliated
as soon as any of them are affiliated.
ADMISSION
The work of a standard high school will be credited in full upon
the presentation of certificates from these schools. Blanks for this
purpose may be had from the Registrar's office. All students are
urged to get these blanks and to have them properly filled before entering. All entrance credits given by any other means are made conditional
upon the satisfactory completion of one course in advance of the one
credited.
Students from other schools must present a certificate of honorable
dismissal before they can be admitted. We cannot accept you on any
other condition.
The work of the Academy is planned to cover the high school course.
The first year corresponds to the eighth grade; the! second, to the
ninth; the third, to the tenth; and the fourth, to the eleventh.
REGULATIONS
All courses meet five times a week. The periods are forty minutes
long.
There will be no distinctive recognition made of the last year of
the Academy. We shall insist that this class be not known as the
senior class. All students in the Academy shall be known as Academy
students.
Academy students will be put under stricter regulations than the
College students. This is due to the difference in maturity. There
shall be no social distinction made between any of the students.
All students will be required to take at least four courses, and not
over five except by special permission. Work in the Fine Arts Department
shall be taken into consideration; art, piano, etc., counting
as one of the number.
No student will be permitted to change a course or drop a course
unless the teacher in charge recommends it.
Three unexcused absences may in the judgment of the teacher disqualify
a student for continuing the course.
If a student is absent from chapel or study-hall without excuse
his absence will be reported to the Dean, who will warn him against
its repetition. If it is repeated his parents will be notified; and if it
occurs a third time, he may be asked to resign or be punished in such
a way as the discipline committee may find necessary. It is understood
that absences from the study-hall and chapel shall not be combined, but
that three from either one will bring the student before the committee.SESSION OF` 19199-'20
