Freshman
First grade continued. Quality of tone, scales and arpeggi. Vocalics
and songs to develop freedom and distinct articulation.
Sophomore
Exercises in vocalization. Embellishments. Songs, ballads, and
arias of moderate difficulty. Examination in this division will include
the preparatory piano course and "History of Songs and Ballads,"
by McKensie.
Junior
Embellishments continued. Studies to develop style, agility, and
expression. Phrasing and interpretation through the study of songs,
ballads, and arias.
Senior
Facility in executing the various embellishments with lightness
and precision. Exercise for acquiring equality of tone throughout
the entire compass of the voice. Classic and modern songs. Arias
from Opera and Oratoria. Repertoire will include not only compositions
of the classical masters and of the Italian and French schools,
but those of such modern representative song-writers as McDowell,
Cadman, Strauss, Debussy, Wekerlin, Massenet, and Wolf.
Certificates
Students who finish the prescribed course in either of the departments
of music and do the work required in Harmony, Theory,
and Musical History will be given certificates of graduation, provided
they shall have complied with the College entrance demands and
finished at least two college courses in English.
SIGHT SINGING
MR. BALDWIN
1. The Staff, Notes, Measures, Divisions, Rythmn, the Major
Scales, Diatonic Intervals, Major Triad, Minor Scales, Diatonic Intervals,
Minor Triads, Chromatic Tones, Ties, Slurs, Syncopation,
Triplets.
2. Major Scales, Minor Scales, Modulation, Dominant Key, Subdominant
Key, Relative Minor and Major Keys, Alternating Tones,
Distance modulation, Two and Three part singing. Division and
Reading.
All pupils in Voice Department desiring to secure diplomas will
be required to take course in Sight Singing.
Forty minutes, two times a week, will be given FREE in sight
singing. All students will be advised to take this course. Those who
desire special work will pay a reasonable fee.
