modern improvements. The rooms are large and each one has a gas
stove. These rooms are rented to girls unable to pay full board.
Under the direction of a competent teacher they buy their own food
and do their own work. In this way they save on their expenses and
at the same time get training in economy and home-making, which will
be of lasting value to them. Room in this building is limited. If you
desire a place in it you should write early.
Men's Bath House
This is a brick and concrete building completed during this year.
It is equipped with good shower bath and toilet fixtures.
Three Frame Cottages
On the additional ground now being given to us as an addition to
our campus by the city of Abilene there are three good frame cottages
that will be used in caring for students while new buildings are
being provided.
Library
The General Library-A choice circulating library has been built
up gradually, which now numbers over 3,500 volumes and will include
more than 5,000 volumes when school opens this Fall. The working
value of the library is greatly increased by the use of a series of card
indexes from which the student can find all the volumes in the library
treating any given subject. We have a well chosen collection of
magazines, daily newspapers, and religious periodicals.
A COLLEGE WITH A SOUL
Our students are not parts of a machine. They are, each one, individual
human beings different from all others, studied, understood
and sympathized with as such. Our teachers are not stilted, selfrighteous,
professionals, dropped down from above. They are men
and women, grown up from boys and girls-flesh and blood folk-with
hearts and souls and human sympathy. Our boys and girls can get
to them, any of them, at any time when they need help or think they
need help.
OUR STUDENTS AS TEACHERS
Our students have made such a record as teachers, not alone for
efficiency in the school room but for general conduct and usefulness
in the community, that the demand for them is greater than we can
supply each year. We have a number of excellent places now which
we are unable to fill. Next to our Bible Department our Education
Department is our pride. We are strengthening it each year and we
beileve you will agree that it is an ideal place to take your training
if you will get our Bulletin and see how it is organized. We are ambitious
to help to supply the public schools of Texas with the right
kind of schools.
This is a wonderful field for service. We do not like to suggest
a party spirit but we will state a fact for you to think about. The
Baptists practically run Mississippi. Three-fourth of the public school
teachers of the State are educated in Baptist schools. Do you see the
point? This does not mean that three-fourths of these teachers are
of Baptist homes, educated just anywhere. It means that they are
educated in BAPTIST schools. Shall we furnish our part of the
teachers in the Texas public schools and in the other State institutions?
If we concentrate our efforts and do our duty, yes.
