described as Central West Texas. It is a religious town, a school
town, a town that seeks only good citizens. It is one of the cleanest
cities of Texas, physically and morally. There are no saloons or
other public vices. We have all the modern conveniences of the
city without its usual vices and detracting influences. It is a high,
healthful location, almost entirely free from malaria, and with an
abundance of sunshine the year around. Students, without doubt, have
better health, feel better, do more work and better work in our excellent
climate than in the low altitude and humid atmosphere further
east. Our patrons from North, East and South Texas, Arkansas and
Louisiana say the physical improvement of their sons and daughters
over balance by far the distance. Abilene is a very desirable place in
which to live, from the view point of finance, elevation, climate, health
citizenship, church, and school. The oil industry and excellent crop
conditions make it especially inviting in the varoius business fields
at this time. Good families are moving here especially for the benefit
of Abilene Christian College. This should be true to a greater extent
than ever since we are giving four years of standard college work so
the children of the family can complete their college education with
us and receive their B. A. degrees. We should be glad to furnish any
information possible on these points.
Advantages of Location
In selecting a town for a college the location should not be lightly
considered. No people with the ideals of Christian service can afford
to sell the location of an institution for the education of their children
to the highest bidder without unprejudiced, careful, intelligent
investigation of the health and moral conditions. Some locations offer
advantages for development far superior to others. In many places
there are no advantages except those within the school. In others the
influences are calculated to retard and injure.
Abilene offers very superior advantages to students. It is a college
town, filled with the college spirit. The colleges are recognized as
the most important institutions of the community. Not only do our
students enjoy the advantages of a Christian college unsurpassed,
but they also have the privilege of the very best Lyceum courses and
excellent educational and entertainment programs. Leading men of the
nation, representatiing the various professions and vocations are
brought here for the benefit of the students of the city.
Abilene is the commercial center of Central West Texas and the
men who make it such give our schools both their financial and moral
support. Students are surrrounded by really "big men," and these
men are of a very high order from the viewpoint of morals and culture.
It is our sincere judgment that if we had no school started in Texas
and were going to start from the beginning to build a great college we
could find no better location than Abilene. Visit our institution and
city and be convinced.
PURPOSE OF ABILENE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE
The Christian men and women who make Abilene Christian College
possible have in mind the glory of God, through our Lord Jesus
Christ, and the ennobling of mankind. The promulgation of truth and
the building of Christian character are primary. Sacrifices have been
made and will be made to maintain such secular courses as will give
the greatest efficiency for the several fields of human endeavor. To
this end we are permitted, by the grace of God and the kindness ofSESSIOSI ON OF 1919 9-'20O
