The Texas State Historical Association
is presently supervising an ambitious
project that will result in the
publication of a new six-volume
Handbook of Texas in 1995. It will
include many new entries dealing
with people, places, and events in
Chambers County. The Wallisville
Heritage Park, through Director
Kevin Ladd, is writing several articles
for the volume.The Texas Historical Foundation has
recently published a new traveler's directory
entitled Touring Texas Heritage:
A Guidebook to Restaurants,
Hotels and Theatres in Historic
Structures. The guidebook is available
free of charge by writing the
Texas Historical Foundation, Box

volume will greatly enhance any
traveling one might plan in the State
of Texas. The book's publication and
distribution was made possible by
donations from six public-spirited
corporations.
Just in time to benefit many local
Sesquicentennial projects, the Texas
Association of Museums has published
a handbook, History By Design:
A Primer on Interpreting and
Exhibiting Community History. Written
by Patrick Norris of the Fort
Worth Museum of Science and History,
the book is a step-by-step guide
to help communities analyze their
history and develop exhibits, from
research to actual design. The book

The Southwestern Historical Quarterly
will publish a special volume as
part of their contribution to the Sesquicentennial.
Planned for July 1985
through April 1986, the issues will
be devoted to the colonial period in
Texas, the Texas Revolution, the
Texas Republic, and long-term trends
in Texas history. The Quarterly is
sent to all members of the Texas State

provide grants of $300 to $500 to local
heritage organizations and governmental
agencies to help defray the
costs of hiring architects, historians,

Texas Folklife Resources in Austin,
a statewide organization dedicated
to the preservation and presentation
of the state's folklife and folk art,
will undertake a year-long survey to
identify and document living folk artists

Association Announces the
Leadership Award
Given to honor outstanding leadership
in promoting understanding of
the American way of life. Funds for
this award were provided by the
Texas Educational Association of
Fort Worth.
Nominations should be supported by
documentation and/or scrapbooks
which identify the nominee's current
and continuing leadership role. This
is not a writing or teaching award,
but such activities might be the basis
for nomination if they are shown to
constitute leadership extending to a
significant audience. The award will
be presented at the Association's 1986
Annual Meeting.
Leader Award Committee members
