Four new appointments and two reappointments
to the Texas Historical
Records Advisory Board were recently
announced by Governor Mark White.
Kent Keeth, director of the Texas
Collection at Baylor University, and
David J. Murrah, assistant director
for special collections at Texas Tech
University, have been reappointed to
three-year terms.
New appointees are Don E. Carlton,
director of the Barker Texas History
Center at the University of Texas, Austin;
Michael Q. Hooks, director of the
Archives and Records Division, General
Land Office; Betty Kissler, chair
of the History Department, Southwest
Texas State University; and A. Jean
Shepherd, Baytown active member of
numerous historical and heritage associations.
They join current members
John W. Crain, director, Dallas Historical
Society; David B. Gracy II,
director, Texas State Archives; and
Dorman H. Winfrey, director and librarian,
Texas State Library.
The Texas Historical Records Advisory
Board (THRB) was established in
1976 to promote more efficient and
comprehensive preservation of the
state's priceless documents, including
state records, local government records,
and historical manuscripts.

The University Archives at East
Texas State University has developed
the Last Caddo Bateau exhibit with a
grant from the Texas Committee for
the Humanities. The traveling exhibit
includes a bateau, and a plank piroguelike
boat. Master boat builder Wyatt
A. Moore has crafted a bateau so it
could be documented. The exhibit is
scheduled to tour Texas and Louisiana
in 1985. A written narrative will be
available on the construction of this
significant folk craft. For information

The History Book Committee will arrange
a Family History workshop in
your area upon request. Set up a minimum
of six participants and contact

The Texas Forestry Museum has embarked
on an extensive effort to preserve
and record the history of the forest
products industry and forestry
profession in Texas through the collection
of relics, papers, photographs and
other memorabilia. The Texas Forest
Museum is located at 1905 Atkinson

The Texas Association of Museums
Annual Meeting will be held February
13-16, 1985, at the Sheraton
Hotel in downtown Dallas. The theme
of the meeting, The Future Is Now:
The Impact of Technology on Museums,
complements but does not
dominate the Tour-day program. Careful
attention will be given to include
"nuts and bolts" topics essential to the
museum community and the operation
of museums including sessions on fund
raising, education, publications, and

The Dallas City Council recently approved
a $100,000 budget to be given
in the form of loans to business and
property owners in Dallas' neighborhood/retail
revitalization areas. The
low-cost loans are limited to the renovation
of storefronts of commercial
and retail properties. The loans will be
made available at a 5% interest rate.
