In 1995, the BTAS plans to publish a summary collection of papers on the
archaeology of Texas that will communicate ... what has been learned about
Texas archaeology from 1950 to today and discuss trends for the future
study of the state's rich archaeological heritage.The receipt of the Deolece Parmelee
Award highlights the work of many dedicated
avocational and professional archaeologists
to further our understanding
of the cultural heritage of Texas. Included
in the recognition are the outstanding
efforts of the many authors who have
contributed significant papers to the BTAS
during the years (such as Cyrus N. Ray,
Thomas R. Hester, Thomas N. Campbell,
Clarence H. Webb, and R. King Harris),
the TAS members and institutions who
have supported the publications of the
Society, the TAS administrative personnel
and board members who have managed
the affairs of the Society, and in
particular the 21 elected editors and associate
editors who have masterfully handled
the Texas Archaeological Society's publications
since 1929.Timothy K. Perttula, an archaeologist with the
Texas Historical Commission in Austin, is the
current editor of the Bulletin of the Texas
Archaeological Society, a position he has
held since 1991.
