ACADEMIC POLICIES AND PROGRAMS
There is a provision that a student who has completed at
least 62 semester hours in residence at Hardin-Simmons University
and who has an overall quality point average of 2.5
or better may be permitted to take not more than six of the
last thirty hours by some method other than residence work
in Hardin-Simmons, subject to the approval of the dean of
the faculties.
INTER-COLLEGE COURSES
In accordance with an agreement of long standing a student
registered at Hardin-Simmons may, with special permission,
take a limited number of courses at Abilene Christian
College or McMurry College when such courses are not
otherwise available to him. Such courses when taken with
special permission are counted as residence credit toward a
degree.
Since June 1, 1957, correspondence work has not been accepted
toward degree requirements in Hardin-Simmons University.A maximum of thirty semester hours may be done by
extension methods for credit toward a degree.
ADVANCED WORK
A minimum of forty-two semester hours above the sophomore
year must be done before a bachelor's degree will be
granted. This amounts to fourteen three-semester-hour
courss, or their equivalent, which are numbered 300 or
above. At least twelve semester hours in the major field
of study and at least six semester hours in the minor field
of study must be advanced work.
MAXIMUM CREDIT IN ONE FIELD
While it is desirable that students specialize to a certain
extent and not spread their efforts over too many fields, it
is likewise necessary that over-concentration of effort be
avoided. Students therefore are not allowed to do more than
36 hours for credit toward graduation in any one subject for
the bachelor of arts degree, and not more than 42 semester
hours in any one subject for the bachelor of science degree
or the bachelor of business administration degree.
