DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL BUSINESS
COURSESThe educational goals of the Department of
General Business adhere to the tenents that
(1) successful preparation of a business
career necessarily rests on a firm foundation
of the liberal arts, and (2) because of the
pervasiveness and rapidity of change, professional
education for business must be
focused on the world of tomorrow and not
on the business world as it exists today.
MAJORS
The BBA degree is awarded to those
students who complete successfully the
requirements for the regular four-year
General Business program outlined below.
MINORS
Students who minor in General Business
must complete 21 hours to be selected by
the student in consultation with the Chairman
of the Division of Economics and
Business Administration.
NOTES
(1) Graduation Requirements: A student in
the Department of General Business
who plans to qualify for a BBA
degree must select his major with the
help of his advisor and plan his
course of study to include the
required basic liberal arts, core
courses, concentration courses, and
free electives.
No grade lower than a "C" will be
accepted toward credit for graduation
in any Business course. A 2.0
grade point average for the 124
required hours must be achieved. No
transferred credit of "D's" will be
accepted in any Business course.
(2) Counseling: The class schedule is
selected in consultation with a
member of the Department staff
prior to the registration period. In
the case of fall matriculation, the
program may be prepared in the
summer months or during the
orientation period that is designated
for this activity 'just prior to
registration.100. Introduction to Business
A survey of the modern business world. An
orientation course designed to acquaint the
student with business terminology and
institutions. Credit: 3 semester hours.
210, 211. Business Math
A two semester course dealing with
problems of business and finance and
covering such topics as interest, discount,
compound interest, installment buying,
sinking funds, annuities, amorization of
debts, and depreciation of assets. Credit: 3
semester hours each.
302. Principles of Marketing
Marketing functions, hedging, commodity
exchanges, retail and wholesale marketing,
institutions, legal aspects, marketing and
policies and relative efficiency of the
methods of marketing. Prerequisite:
Economics 200, 201. Credit: 3 semester
hours.304. Business Statistics
This course is listed as 312 Statistical
Methods in the Department of Mathematics
323. Principles of Management
A study of management principles following
an "inter-disciplinary" approach. The
evolution of management thought and
organization theory are investigated within
the framework of possible rearrangement of
managerial concepts and principles. Credit:
3 semester hours.
326. Principles of Finance
A basic course in the concepts and
principles of finance and financial
institutions. Designed to give students a
general background for higher and more
specialized studies in finance. Credit: 3
semester hours.
327, 328. Business Law
The purpose of the course is to give the
students a basic understanding of the laws
which govern the more familiar business
transactions. Contracts, agencies, bailments,
common carriers, and sales are covered in
