SI_ IRPS______ MARCH 1994
Lutheran schools and other parochial schools got together and competed in a spelling bee. I
was the first place winner. Toward the end of the year, I again participated in the track and
field day at Concordia College in Austin, Texas. Soon after the track and field day, my seventh
grade class also went to Camp Lone Star. We took part in many of the activities that my sixth
grade class had experienced the year before. My school held an annual science fair competition.
I won second place for constructing an electric motor. In my eighth grade year, my teachers
were Miss Krackhardt, Mr. Alborn and Mr. Liebert. I won first place in the Lutheran
School Spelling Bee. My class again went to compete at the track and field meet. I was the second
runner in a relay team that won first place. I went on a three day trip to Houston, Texas,
with my class. I tried ice skating for my first time on this trip, but I didn't do too well. In the
science fair, my carbon arc heater won an honorable mention. I was able to maintain high
grades and was the valedictorian of my class. As valedictorian, I had to give a speech at the
graduation ceremony which was a new experience for me. Nonetheless, it turned out fairly
well. I graduated and began to attend John Marshall High School. My teachers for my ninth
grade year were and are Mrs. Jones, Mrs. Kimsey, Mr. Soward, Coach Morris, Mr. Howell,
and Miss Knight.
I have not lived in many different places in my life. When I was first born in 1976, I
lived in San Antonio, Texas, at 110 Morning Valley. I lived there until I was twelve years old,
in 1988. I have many vivid memories of my time spent at that house. One that especially sticks
out in my mind is an incident that occurred with a friend of mine, Daren Chylinski. Daren's
mother was sick with cancer and Daren often stayed at my house while his mother was ill. One
day Daren and I were playing in the backyard and we had an idea. The neighbors had a
swimming pool and we wanted to see who could throw a chunk of mud to the farthest end of
the pool and land it in the deep water. We were just young and we saw nothing wrong with it
at the time. One of us would sit on top of the tall wooden fence while the other stayed on the
ground and threw the mud. The one on the fence would report back to the one on the ground
as to how far the chunk had gone -- deep or shallow end. Our game was discovered. We were
punished, but looking back, it was quite amusing. On December 31, 1988, I moved to another
house in San Antonio where I currently live.
Throughout my life, I have had many hobbies and have taken part in numerous activities.
I started playing soccer when I was only five years old. I played for Mount Olive Lutheran
School. I continued to play soccer on Mount Olive's team until the third grade. Since
Redeemer didn't have a soccer team, I played basketball and ran track in the fourth and fifth
grade. I played only basketball in the sixth grade. At Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran School, I
played soccer, basketball, and softball during the seventh and eighth grade. In eighth grade, I
played on two soccer teams: one for my school and another one called the Jaguars. I also
coached a third grade soccer team with a teammate of mine, Russell Hornsby. At John Marshall,
I play basketball on the freshman team. I have always liked to hunt and fish. I also enjoy
other sports such as golfing and water skiing although I am just beginning to learn about these
sports. I have had many other hobbies besides sports, too. For a short time, I collected baseball
cards and basketball cards. I also collect coins, key-chains, knives, and Indian arrowheads.
I have had interests in carpentry, electronics, and computers. My father has shown me the
basic principles behind rock polishing, leather crafting, and clay sculpting. I have enjoyed all
of these, but my favorites are the sports.
My summers have usually been full of activity. My family typically goes on several
short vacations every summer. My brothers and I have always spent time with our grandparents
during summer vacations. We have stayed with my father's parents in Austin, Texas, and
with my mother's parents who have lived in San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and on Lake LBJ in
Kingsland, Texas. I also like to get together with my aunts, uncles and cousins. We all have5
