J&S Genealogy Service, P.O. Box 1139, Mineral Wells, TX 76068 offers Computer
CD-ROM Searches for a nominal fee. For instance the cost for a search of the Social Security
Death Index from 1936 to June 1992 is only $6 per individual or $15 per surname search. Also
available are Texas Census Index searches for 1860, 1870, 1880 as well as the 1890 Mortality
Schedules. Again price is $6 per individual, $15 per surname and $20 per Soundex search!

The Collin County Genealogical Society has another book on the market: Ancestors of
the Collin County Genealogical Society Members, Volume III. This 100 page volume contains
information over 5,000 ancestors from all over the United States and the world arranged
alphabetically with state and year of birth, state and year of death, year of marriage, and name
of spouse. The spouses are cross-referenced. The price of $11 includes $1.50 postage and

The Euless Library has installed a CD ROM Player and has acquired CD's containing
a massive collection of marriage records assembled from a variety of sources, and placed in a
standard format that names bride and groom, date, location, and souce. Although no claim is
made that these are all the marriages that occured in these localities during these time periods,
the disks are extremely helpful research tools. Among the disks available are Louisiana
Marriage Records, 1739-1910, containing about 285,000 marriages; Illinois, Indiana,
Kentucky, Ohio & Tennessee Marriage Records, 1720-1926, containing about 370,000
marriage's; Alabama, Georgia & South Carolina Marriage Records, 1641-1944, containing
about 190,000 marriages; Maryland, North Carolina and Virginia Marriage Records, 16241915,
containing about 250,000 marriages; Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and Texas
Marriage Records, 1766-1983, containing about 524,000 marriages; Arkansas, California,
Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Oregon, & Texas Marriage Records, containing about
108,000 marriages; and Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee & Virginia Marriage Records,
1660-1850, containing about 580,000 marriages.
Beatta T. Drake was named 1993 Volunteer of the Year by the Hutchinson County
Historical Commision at the Annual Awards Brunch on Dec. 11, 1993. Betty, who contributed
over 400 hours to the museum this year, spent most of her time at the computer entering
artifact information. This is part of the museum's collections computerization effort which was
begun last year.
