1 AN ACT
2 relating to the authority of the Ector County Hospital District to
3 employ and commission peace officers.
4 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
5 SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 1024, Special District
6 Local Laws Code, is amended by adding Section 1024.117 to read as
7 follows:
8 Sec. 1024.117. EMPLOYMENT OF DISTRICT PEACE OFFICERS. (a)
9 The board may employ and commission peace officers for the
10 district.
11 (b) The jurisdiction of a peace officer commissioned under
12 this section includes the property owned or controlled by the
13 district.
14 (c) In a district peace officer's jurisdiction, the peace
15 officer has the authority granted by Chapter 14, Code of Criminal
16 Procedure.
17 SECTION 2. Article 2.12, Code of Criminal Procedure, is
18 amended to read as follows:
19 Art. 2.12. WHO ARE PEACE OFFICERS. The following are peace
20 officers:
21 (1) sheriffs, their deputies, and those reserve
22 deputies who hold a permanent peace officer license issued under
23 Chapter 1701, Occupations Code;
24 (2) constables, deputy constables, and those reserve
