THE GAMES
Mineral Wells 46, Strawn 0
The Mineral Wells High School team inaugurated the most success-
ful season of their gridiron career by playing a 46 to 0 victory over
Strawn High School. At first the game looked like a closely contested
one, but before the first quarter was up, Brewster scored a touchdown,
and failed to kick goal. In the second quarter, Wristen and Brewster
scored touchdowns and Cash kicked one goal. In the third quarter Saxon
scored two touchdowns and Brewster failed to kick both goals. In the
fourth quarter a fresh team was sent in by Coach Frazier. Cash and
Griffin made a touchdown each, before the final whistle blew.
The unlimited number of freshmen helped Coach Frazier to gain an
early start over the visitors. Every man out for the squad was given a
chance to play in this game which enabled the Coach to pick out the best
looking men and work with his system.
Outstanding features of the game: End running by Thomas and
Cash, line plunging by Seamster and Saxon. Brewster and Griffin looked
like good promise for punters and line plungers at all times. Both Dick-
inson and Wristen used good head work in running the team from quarter
back position. Lecklie was the sidestepper and broken field man of the
day.
For Strawn Reddy played a stellar game.
Mineral Wells 88, Decatur 0
The second game of the season was a surprise to all. The Decatur
team came to Mineral Wells with an undefeated reputation, having been
scored upon for seven points during the season. From the start it was a
fast football game, but before many minutes Mineral Wells scored a
touchdown and kicked goal. The Decatur team was well belanced but
were unable to stop the heavier elven. The "punt formation" used by
Mineral Wells baffled them.
Before the final whistle blew Mineral Wells had scored a total of 88
points to Decatur's 0. In the first quarter Cash made two touchdowns by
his broken field running. The third quarter opened up with Griffin scor-
ing the first touchdown; following this Seamster and Dickinson score
touchdowns. Third quarter begins with several freshmen and Thomas
crossing over for first touchdown with Brewster kicking goal; Colwell
scores touchdown on pass from Leckie with Brewster failing to kick goal;
Leckie goes over for another one with Brewster adding the point; on a
pass Saxon to Webb another touchdown is scored with Brewster kicking
goal. In the final quarter Stoker makes the tenth touchdown and Brews-
ter kicks the goal; Stoker scores another with Brewster duplicating his
performance. Ledbetter scores and Brewster fails to help him make the
other point. Dickinson makes a sensational 40-yard run for last score and
Brewster fails.
Frank Carter, playing his first game of football, shows up well.
