.. .....................................FinancesTHE BURRO
Aside from the arrangement there are really no new features in The
Burro this year. The work has been greatly handicapped by the fact
the members of the staff not taking a resnonibility that thev should
have. Each one waited for some one else to do his work, until finally the
door of our office was locked to all, and the work was done by only a
few members of the staff.
Financially the book is a failure. It did not nearly pav for itself.
To continually face impending bankruptcy is the most disheartening thin r
imaginable. To know that one's efforts are going to avail him nothing, is
complete demoralization. The Editor has faced these conditions all year
and under the circumstances we think that there is no apology due anv-
body. We hope you will like the book, but criticism will not be consid-
ered bad form. When you have something to say, however, please be
careful and remember we think that:
" 'Tis not the fellow who is made the goat
That gets angry at our staff,
But the one who is slighted from each joke
And is not mentioned for a laugh.
In Annuals as well as in all other things
The pupils, teachers, trustees and all
Want to see that at least one page brings
Their name, a picture, or a joke to fall
So if you begin to criticise at the end
Be sure, first, that you are not slighted, my friend."
