Improvement
The great plant having been coin
pletcd It Is now the purpose of the
director to issue and ulfcr for sali:
0110 hundred thousand dollars In
bonds the proceed. of which to go
Into the treasury as a necessary op
crating fund and wIkii this fliall
have been done the curtain will
ri..e upon that new era ot Industrial
lift of the Panhandle and the West
that will be meiuorablii till time
shall bo hi) more. That the bond
will b0 readily marketable theie
can bo no reasonable doubt Tho
plant should and will pay from the
very start. No packing plant In the
history of the world was ever plac-
ed more advantageously than this.
To begin with tho .jilant rests In
the very center of the greatest beef
producing region of the world with
assurances that very shortly tho
same can he said as to hogs. Three
transcontinental trunk line of rail-
way radiate in all directions from
Amarlllo which with their branch-
es afford the plant the Inrgcbt In-
dividual territory In which it can
be supreme In all thing of any like
plant on this or any other continent.
Th0 freight rate arc ho adjusted
that tho saving of the raw material
and the marketing and distribution
of tho finished product would of It
self bo a profit on the manufact-
ure. In tho marketing of packing
house product quality U a potential
factor and in this respect the veter
an packer. Mr. Butts will xeel as
he always has and to thlg as a
handler of bis product over twenty
years ago I can aounduntly tes-
tify. As It has been truthfully said
the only fchots that count are those
that hit. and Mr. Hutt with tho pro-
duct of the Panhandle Packing Co.
will hit responsive appetites ho"o
an I everywhere.
We come now to the broid hid-
ing of the value of packing lioiiw.
tu tne livestock Industry to com-
munities cities and the common-
wealth and notwithstanding the vast
ne.ss of this subject nothing but
brevity can bo attempted herein. As
things now and always must stand
the live stock and packing Interests
are Interdependent and for both or
either to achieve thH rullest measure
of success there must exlet mutual
confidence reciprocal alms and r'tr-
poses. This Ideal condition ls now
In sight and ls coming through such
Instrumentalities as the United
States bureaus of Agriculture and
Animal Industry the Interstate Com-
merce Commission regulating rates
and preventing rebates and the pur-
chase of transportation favoritism
and concession th0 growing dispar-
ity between the supply and the de-
mand and perhaps tho greatest of all
Is that agency and enlarged sphere
or the Independent packing plant.
The presence of tho packing house
Is an inspiration to the llve stock
producer to excel In quantity and
quality affording tho added stimu-
lus of greatly increased pronts. .m
tlie producer and shipper the ques-
tion of distance of haul time of de-
livery shrinkage ana deterioration
Is indeed mosi vital. It Is far bet-
ter to ship a car of dressed beef
tinder refrigeration from Amarlllo
to Uoston than a car of beef steers
to Kansas City and there dressed
and reshlpped to Boston. These
polnts are all too well known to
the Panhandle Live Stock Associa-
tion and they are some of the rea-
sons animating their unvarying
clamor for the packing plant at Ama-
rlllo on
