Withdrawal From University - Refunds
Policies and Procedures Regarding the
Return of Title IV and Institutional Funds
Abilene Christian University calculates and returns Title IV funds
according to Federal Title IV policy 34 CRF 668.22. The amount of
Title IV funds (other than Federal Work-Study) that must be returned
to the Title IV programs is based solely on the length of time the
student was enrolled before withdrawing. This policy is effective for
complete or full withdrawal from a semester in which the student
receives Title IV federal funds.
If the students withdraws before 60 percent of the semester has
elapsed, a percentage of Title IV funds will be returned to the federal
program based on the length of time the student is enrolled prior to
withdrawal. For example, if the student withdraws when 50 percent
of the semester has elapsed, 50 percent of Title IV funds will be
returned to the federal programs. After 60 percent of the semester
has elapsed, the student is considered to have used all aid received
for the semester.
The return of Title IV funds depends upon the date the student
withdraws during the semester.
Withdrawal date is defined as one of the following:
* The date the student began the withdrawal process;
* The date the student otherwise provided the school with
official notification of the intent to withdraw;
* For the student who does not begin the university's
withdrawal process or notify the school of the intent to
withdraw, the mid-point of the payment period or period
of enrollment for which Title IV assistance was disbursed
(unless the university can document a later date); or
* The withdrawal date is determined from class
attendance records.
Abilene Christian University will:
1. Determine date of withdrawal.
2. Calculate the percentage of aid deemed to have been used
by the student.
3. Calculate the percentage of aid not utilized by the student,
which must be returned to federal programs.
Return of Title IV Funds
If the withdrawal date results in a percentage of Title IV aid not
utilized by the student, then return of Title IV aid will occur in the
following order:
1. Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans.
2. Subsidized Federal Stafford Loans.
3. Federal Perkins Loans.
4. Federal PLUS Loans.
5. Direct PLUS Loans.
6. Federal Pell Grants.
7. Federal SEOG Grants.
8. Other assistance under the title for which a return
of funds is required.
Room and board will be refunded on a pro rata basis after a student
withdraws from the university. No refunds for board will be made for
absences while enrolled in the university.
Residence Hall Reservations and Cancellations
Students who want to live in university housing must submit a housing
request form accompanied by a deposit. Those who voluntarily cancel
their application must do so prior to May 1 to receive a refund.
Cancellations for special workshops should be made one week
before the first class session.
Current ACU students will have priority over others in the choice of
rooms for a specified period. The room deposit will be kept as longas a student lives in university housing. When the student leaves
university housing, the deposit will be applied to any unpaid balance
on the student's account or it will be refunded upon request;otherwise, it will be forfeited. All room reservations will be held until
the first day of classes and then be released unless special holding
arrangements are made in advance with the Office of Residence Life
Education and Housing. After the semester begins, necessary room
changes must be coordinated through the residence hall director.
Endowed Scholarships
The following endowed scholarships are available at ACU. They are
awarded to qualified students by the appropriate awarding body;
students do not apply for these scholarships directly, but may contact
Student Financial Services to determine the financial aid they are
eligible to receive. This list is updated as of February 2005; however,
corrections should be reported to the catalog office.
