From the President
Welcome to Abilene Christian University!
We're glad you're making plans to join us for our 100th school year in 2005-06.
Record numbers of students have come to our campus the last few years to study, and
we invite you to join them for an exceptional education from a qualified, caring faculty
on an attractive, friendly campus.
ACU challenges and mentors its nearly 4,800 students to excel in their careers and
make a difference in their homes, churches and communities. We are a national leader
in Christian education because we have higher expectations. Our spiritual commitment
demands the highest standards of academic and personal excellence. The members of
our faculty and staff accept the challenge to stretch the minds of our students in a rigorous
life of learning, to integrate faith and learning, to demonstrate leadership and to further
develop their personal relationship with God. Our students, faculty and staff change the world.
As a student, you also will face challenges to accept responsibility for your academic preparation and your
life choices, to grow intellectually, spiritually and socially through active participation in our curriculum and
co-curriculum, and to seriously pursue opportunities to mature as a Christian servant-leader.
We are here to help you meet those challenges. ACU has been named both a "Best College" and "Best Value"
by U.S. News and World Report. ACU ranks among the top 10 percent of universities for attracting National Merit
Scholars, and the Templeton Foundation annually honors ACU for its character-building programs. Our hands-on
approach to learning, our state-of-the-art technology and our Christian focus combine to offer you a unique
learning experience.
This catalog explains our undergraduate and graduate academic programs, admission requirements and
support services available on campus. There are toll-free phone numbers to call if you have more questions.
Tim Johnston and his staff in Admissions are ready to help you enroll, and Dr. Dwayne VanRheenen and his staff
in the Provost's Office and Dr. Carol Williams and her Graduate School staff are excited about helping you plan
and accomplish your academic goals. We look forward to having you as part of the ACU family.

From the Provost
ACU is one of the finest comprehensive, Christian universities in the nation. We
prepare outstanding young men and women to enter some of the top graduate schools
in the world, to begin or advance their professional careers, and to make a difference in
their homes, churches and communities.
Our students learn through a well-designed curriculum and co-curriculum - both
inside and outside the classroom. This hands-on learning experience has earned ACU
ratings in "America's Best Colleges" by U.S. News and World Report and other guides
such as "Best Colleges," "Best Values" and "Best Christian Colleges." You'll have the
important opportunity to study abroad through our Center for International and
Intercultural Education, and your academic training will be enhanced by participation
in our Volunteer and Service-Learning Center.
Our campus is technologically advanced. Each of our students receives an email account, and the students
who reside on campus in our residence halls receive an Internet connection. ACU provides about 30 computer
labs on campus - including one in each residence hall - and several have 24-hour access.
But it's our faculty - not machines and computers - that makes an education at ACU special. They are
well-qualified, and they care about you and your education. Our Learning Covenant will guide your years at
ACU, and you will quickly see how our integration of faith and learning will prepare you for your place of
service and leadership in the 21st century.
At ACU, we strive to make Christ the center of everything we do. We believe spiritual commitment demands
the highest standards of academic excellence. We have higher expectations.
- Dr Dwayne D. VanRheenen
