Killeen is going to give away
$10000 April 12 at. its open house.
Six families will be the biggest
winners after the lucky ones are
selected by lot and win six months
of free living in the queen city of
western Bell county.
The open house idea was conceiv
ed by a group of Killeen citizens
working with the Chamber of Com
merce.
"Our building boom is completed
and we have housing available"
Arnold Mathias Chamber mana
ger said. So he and his people be
gan looking for a way to let every
one know about the housing.
A. H. Curtis general chairman
of the open house committee Roy
Reynolds and Harley Kern sub
committee heads and R. C. Adams
chamber president got their heads
together.
Their first-idea was just to in|dition
vite visitors to come in and see
what Killeen has grown into. They
planned to hold open house in somp
of the new apartment buildings and
let out-of-towners see what was
available.

But the planners decided they'd
have to do more than just invite a
bunch of people to come and look.
So they got to work. They decided
it would be a good idea to offer an
apartment for six months rent free.
Still that wasn't enough for the
ambitious citizens of Killeen. They
wanted to give more and by golly

Soon the list grew until there
