CHAT FROM EXCHAEGB8
H is ■immTsrt thai Theodore
Roosevelt will come to Texas aa ho
returns to the United States, and
that he will speak in the interest of
the Republican party in our princi-
pal cities. Hope he will come to
Yoga.—Sentinel.
Is Vega a Republican City or does
it nosd a taste of the "strenuo s
life?"
The Panhandle or any other coun-
try is not a one-crop country. Just
so sure as the farmer clings to the
one-crop idea, just so sure is that
farmer bound to make a failure.
The farmer in the Stratford country
who has some wheat and also oats,
maize, kaffir and broom corn togeth
er with a liberal supply of good cows,
hogs and horses to eat his feed, will
make money. He can make a fail-
ure on one crop and have others to
fall back on, while the one-crop man
is gcing broke.—Steatford Star.
The regular passenger train will
be put on the Rock Island next Sun-
day from Tucumcari to Amarillo.
It is to come through Vega going
east a little after 9 o'clock in the
morning and return going west about
9 o'clock at night. That will give
a chance for a quite a lot of Sabbath
decoration in Amarillo.—Sentinel.
Mr. Witherspoon and Professor
Firsch came over in their auto from
Hereford last Monday morning. Mr
Firsch is one of the best teachers in
the Panhandle.—Vega Sentinel.
If you are not satisfied with the
way other people are running their
business, try attending to your own
for awhile and see how much better
you'll feel.—Hereford Brand.
And how much more you'll ac-
complish. But there are a few peo-
ple in the world who are self-sacri-
ficing enough to neglect their own
affairsin order to give their neighbors
valuable suggestions. These, like
the poor, we will doubtless have
with us always.—Daily Panhandle.
A good deed is never lost; he who
sows courtesy reaps friendship, and
he who plants kindness gathers love ;
pleasure bestowed upon a greatful
mind was never sterile, but general-
ly gratitude begets reward.—Pam-
pa News.
Cooke county went over into pro
column recently by 390 majority,
but Gainesville, the capital city of
that county polled a heavy anti ma-
jority. Two years aero, the county
went "wet" by 156 majority, mak-
ing a change of 546 votes.
Lubbock voted 466 majority for
prohibttion i n a recent election.
With these votes divided evenly be-
tween the prohi state candidates, it
makes the election of an anti-prohi
governor almost certain in that coun-
ty. If that county turns in a plur-
ality for an anti governor, what will
otner counties do?
The Brand is in receipt of the first
number of The West Texas Maga-
zine, published by a company of the
same name. The typographical work
was done by the Whip'ney Printing
Company, of Colorado, Texas. The
Magazine is a new venture for West
Texas and deserves the hearty sup-
port of every true westerner. The
table of contents reveal a store of
interesting articles dealing mostly
wi,h the developement of the coun-
try surrounding Colorado, Texas.
