Welcome to McMurry University.
On behalf of the faculty and administration, I am delighted to welcome you to McMurry
University. You have joined a vibrant, demanding and supportive community of scholars
committed to lifelong learning.
In our community students, faculty and administrators form a covenant, expressed in terms of
mutual commitments toward commonly-held goals, and shared responsibilities for making the
community work together. I hope, as students, you come to McMurry to learn, to prepare
yourselves for future career goals, to develop personal skills and abilities, and to participate in
a variety of learning experiences and extracurricular activities. It is McMurry's responsibility
to help you achieve these goals and aspirations.
McMurry provides stimulating courses and majors, well-qualified faculty, modern facilities
and support services to integrate the co-curricular activities and programs to assist you in
your intellectual and social growth. It is the faculty's responsibility to design and teach
courses, to remain current in their disciplines, to sustain their own scholarship and profes-
sional activities, to evaluate your classroom work and to provide academic advice and
counsel.
You are expected to come prepared for classes, to participate in discussions and to seek help
when you have academic problems. The University provides academic resources such as the
library, computer labs, an Academic Enrichment Center and qualified tutors and counselors
It is your responsibility to avail yourselves of these resources.
McMurry is a caring community. Considerable effort is expended in selecting students who
will contribute to, participate in and benefit from a McMurry education. Similar care is taken
in selecting faculty and staff who are well-qualified teachers concerned about students as
individuals.
I hope you enjoy the 1997/98 academic year during which I want to get to know you person-
ally. McMurry is a special place which has helped mold the lives of thousands of students
who have come before you. They are now community and church leaders plus successful
physicians, teachers, lawyers, clergy, musicians, business men and women, etc. Take full
advantage of your University's opportunities.
