"The Texas Historical Records Survey is a unit of the Texas State-wide Records Project sponsored by the Bureau of Research in the Social Sciences of The University of Texas, and operates under the Research and Records Section of the Division of Professional and Service Projects of the Work Projects Administration."--Preface

The records of Hays County were inventoried during November and December 1936. Worker's forms were rechecked on February 16 and 17, 1937. A verification check of the typed entry draft was made during August 1939.--Preface

Although Hays County was created and organized in 1848, the first Hays County Courthouse is believed to have burned in 1868, destroying many county records.--See p. 19.
