Everett was founder and past president of the Alamo Unit of
American Cancer Society, former board member of Bexar-Metro
Unit, chairman for United Way on St. Philip's Campus, member of
United Way's Allocations and Executive Committees for six years,
a member of the San Antonio Literacy Council board for more
than ten years, worked with Bishop Yanta with SANYO, (San
Antonio Youth Organization), a member of the National
Conference of Christians and Jews, a consultant for the Texas
Education Agency in preparing teachers for desegregation, a
member and two-term chair of the San Antonio Library Board, an
officer of Bexar County Mental Health Association, member of
Healy-Murphy Board of Directors, and past president of Southwest
Teachers' Association.
Everett was active in his church, first at St. Peter Clover where he
served as usher, treasurer and Vice President of the Credit Union,
and a member of the Holy Name Society. When St. Peter Clover
closed, he transferred to St. Joseph's Downtown. He has been
cited for outstanding service, honored with the Archbishop Furey
Award for Outstanding Leadership and later was invested into the
Order of St. Gregory The Great, the highest honor for a layman,
bestowed by the Pope.
Everett is survived by his loving wife, Sally; devoted son, James
Lawrence; sister, Marie Remming; brother-in-law, Walter
Remming; niece and husband, Denise & Robert Chapa and special
cousim, Mr. & Mrs. Warick Abrams... all from San Antonio. He
will be fondly remembered by these and by a host of other relatives
andfriends.
