WWC LOC LILA
Sherman Texas Jan 1, 1921
Dea# folks a-C home,
I know of no better way of starting the new year than
by writing to you. Got Jakee letter and ama:as yesterday
I am sure you hade all bean having the biggest time in tf
the world. I am heartily in favor of a general reunion
next summer when Louis and Rose.ooae.
Jake asked about whether I had deoided-yet as to
the Gainsville work. Really I haven't. As yet they
have made no official call, and even if
I should be
ever so much in favor of going I. ouldn t make a d*finite
decision on merely a verbal re quest to consider
it Consequently I am cutting it up o them fo-r the
next move saying that if they will issue a written
call in proper form.I shall. consider it fav6rably.Not
exactly an aceptance but a leaning that way.
By Next week I shall know such more about it.
When I got back to Sherman I found the last letter
I wrote to you not sent off. In it I was very much
undecided whether to go into the pastorate or to
Mexico as a missionary. After considering it thorough.
ly,and mixing with the Gainesville people, as well as
consulting brother ministers I hare oe to the con
clusion that my work is in the pastorate. Prom Lila's
letter I received a fresh impulse for the mission
fields as she proposed our going together. For her
sake and for the sake of the cause of missions in getting
her valuable service enlisted I was brought almost
to the point of reconsidering my decision for the
pastorate. But further thought and prayer brought
me to conclude that it will be some years before IAila
will be prepared to go,and when she is prepared her
going need not depend on my going with her if she is
really called to that work (and I truly hope she is).
Yes, I heard from Gaines Hall trying to get me to
ooae to Weatherford. .I told him I wouldn't consider th,
the work at all. I happen to kmow a little too much
about that ohuseb and its diffioulties.with the USA
church. The Gainesville chbroh is free from that
problem as the city is large
enough for both to
exlist without fiction except insofar as the U.S.A
ohuroh-always follows the policy of trying to swallow
--;p our church no matter here or how large the place.
But being exceedingly sxious arlout that one thing
I made inquiry and the relations between the charohes
thee are either positively friendly or else -hands
off ,varying with the disposition of t0e Northern
members. Our ohuroh, i' sure, is quite friendly.
Then too,we hare a strong ountry church near Gaine
ville, and possibly other country organisation
prospects which invariably strengthen the church at
the center. The whole county in a field for fine
work,as I see it,if properly organized.
Love to all of you,
