Stamford, Tuesday Oct. 15, 1918.
IMy stay at Spur the last ti me was interrupted by a
oall from Stamford to be at the memorial services -of Leut
Vernon Hart who was killed in battle Sep.15. ly part in
the service was the singing of "Som.ewhere In France" and
playing "Taps" at the close ofthe service. Ofcourse I
was very glad to do that small favor to a broken hearted
mother whose boy had made the surremT sacrifice 'over
there" ,especially since I have two tero who are -:illing to
do the same thing. iLrs Hart has been very brave indeed,
as has her daughter,,,iiss Vada. Last Sunday M.iss gLayme
Cullum and I were invited to her home for dinner and it was
a pleasure to talk to her of her son whom she almost
idolized and yet was perfectly.'willing to give up for the
country and humanity./ Her son,Bdrshowed a good spirit when
Vernon went over last ju-te by 'aying that he wished he
could go in his place.
Synod met Oct. ,but on account of Spanish Influenza we
closed our busi: ess 'Thurodi -.i1, -z .... 1. . instead or

:oer? Lo,;'.?' Thursday morning, but we were given special
privelege. I enjoyed Synod very much. The item which consumed
most time was the matter of the proposed removal of
the Orphans Home. Nothing was done and I think it is
a shame that they have to agitate a matter that seems to
;e so well fixed already.
The Wedding which was supposed to have taken place
Friday night at Hamilton w s indefinitely postponed because
of the sickness of both the Bride a-d Groom. They are to
let me know when it is to be and if possible I will go.
hen I returned to Stamford I was asked to sing "iLo
light There" at the funeral services of .r Wtilder Scott
of Electra who used to live here add whose body was
brot here for interment. I was onw of a party of four
vIho sat up with the body the night before the burial.
Carrie iUilliams left last night for Ft ':;orth where
she and her mother will live. iArs iilliamis left this morning
so she could have daylight trip and also to give Carrie
a day in which to locate a house to live in. Carrie has
a position with some assotiation there as a nue'-and th-ir"
she has a real good thing. I hope t,.ey will, like there.
Eve hat another fine practice o-? tie Co>-rmunity singing
last night, and we intend to put on a program next time
that will surpass the other one. "he people are waking
up to what we are doing new ard it. is so :'-ch easier to
get them to cooperate.
