Last Monday evening a Mr.Speeri of Albany jumped off
the train while in motion between Albany and Stanford,
and fell headlong down the embankment into a pile of
rocks from which he never regained consciousness. He
was taken by the same train to the Sanitarriun in Stamford
where he lived a little over three days. 'The Speers wciar
particular friends of Miss Cullum's and she entertained
the two sisters and the brother who came to his bedside.
I was not at all busy last weoek,as I had no new sermons
to prepare,so I acted ss ";31ick drive-f' between Miss
Cullum's and the Sanitarium.
The Sanitarium vas rore tnan usually rushed during the
whole week. Carrie Knox is surely gaining t mighty fine
reputation as P nrsse ir StaFrorbr; and truly she deserves
it,for she is the moqt pleasant end acconmmd-ting person
you ever saw. The patients all think she is grand.
.rs.1.illiams is not at all satisfied with Stamford, and
it worries Carrie: nox +,hat she will not be more contented.
i;e,as a church, have tried to make it just as pleasant for
her as we can; but she is bent on going to Waco to live
and wants Carrie to gc with her'-a thinr, that 'earrie deteti

she has her way.
"he Starford SS.had another picnic last Thurs.evening
out on t'he Collegre Lake. ;le cou'idn' t get hold of cars
enough to take then all out there so we m ae several trins
Hed all sorts of tire trouble anJdidn't get to )njoy mnch
of the picnic, though the rest sen-ed to ;ave had a -reat
time.
W"'e had s fine dq9r in the ch rch services here yesterday
with a large congregation both morning ind evening. Those
who have been off on vacation have returned and the church
has suddenly taken on nev life. In fact. This Spur church
is a very encouraging proposition. It is the only Presbyterian
church in 20 miles and the only active one in 40,
so there is a wonderful oprortunitr for developing a large
territory for Presbyl
rianis7i.
Am mighty g'la-. to he'r of the oil interest ct home, and
hope t-a. oil will be fourd on our place. Papa nif:ht ,
find consolation in his cheap lease in the fact t',at if _
he and others -rlo lea-sed at first ha
not leased thle oil
would not have been developed nearl: so soon. if you can
just make sufficient crops for ithe next three years to get
you by then you will be anle to lease your land for a good
living.
