After the action of the council it went to the mayor
and from him to someone else for execution. The
people do not pay their taxes for such treatment.
They want their business attended to promptly and
that is what is being done under the commission."
The coming July the commission will have been
in existence seven years, and during that time it has
accomplished wonders. In 1905 the floating debt
of the city was about $400,000. Every cent of that
has been wiped out and the taxpayers have been
given, out of the treasury, without the issuance of
a single bond for any one of the items, the following
permanent improvements:
