Troop A has always been the crack troop of
cavalry of the Texas National Guards. This is a
Houston company and during the war with Spain
was part of the First Texas Cavalry, United States
Volunteers.
The Jeff Miller Rifles, which belonged to the
Second Infantry regiment, was also a noted company,
that saw service during the skirmish with
Spain.
