Texas Ballet TI aater continues its season with 'Coppelia'
Ballet loves the con trivance of inanimate objects that come to life, whether they are nut-
crackers, toy soldiers or dolls. In "Coppelia," the last ballet produced during the Romantic
era, a peculiar toymaker and magician in a Polish village attempts to bring one of his toys to
life while two sweethearts engage in assorted hijinks. This beloved comic fairy tale, with
music by Leo Delibes, is choreographed by Texas Ballet Theater's artistic director, Ben
Stevenson.

Two one-act plays hit the stage with a Texas twang
Playwright James McLure loves Texas, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have a thing or
three to say about the Occasional ridiculousness of people who live here. In his two one-act
plays, "Lone Star" and "Laundry and Bourbon" he looks alternately at the lives of car-loving
men and the women who love them in the small, mythical town of Maynard. The
Contemporary Theatre of Dallas offers both on a double bill starting this weekend, with
"Laundry" featuring out actress Marisa Diotalevi as a self-righteous Baptist wife who steps
on everyone's toes.

Former Thunder) ss DJ Barry Harris returns to Dallas as a solo artist
Out DJ Barry Hlffris had been spinning music for many years. But when he teamed up
with Chris Cox to form Thunderpuss in 1998, the producing duo quickly became darlings
of diva-style house music, retaining existing vocal tracks and rebuilding songs with
infectious beats. Together they have hit the Billboard dance charts countless times with
hits that include "Dive into the Pool," made
famous during the first season of "Queer
as Folk." But last October Harris
announced he was splitting
with Cox to pursue a
solo career. The
master remixer and
spin doctor goes it

Blue Moon or St. Patrick's Day dance on Saturday
For the past five years, Once in a Blue Moon has offered local lesbians the opportunity
to partake in a monthly dance where the music is country and disco, and the volume is low
enough to carry on a conversation. It's a casual, friendly atmosphere with attire that ranges
from T-shirts and jeans to long feather boas. With St. Patrick's Day just around the corner,
the group is turning green for the event Saturday — the color of the Emerald Isle is
encouraged for all attendees. As always, coffee, water and soft drinks will be for sale, but
if you want something harder, it's BYOB.
Dance Masters Studio, 10675 E. Northwest Highway. Mar. 13 at 7p.m. $10. 972-479-
