Couples who try performing these exercises
should use extreme caution. Lunging or squatting
with someone sitting on your shoulders, as in "Be
Me Camel: The Weighted Lunge" or "Master of
the Stairs: The Weighted Stair Climb," can be
dangerous for both parties.
That being said, for intimate couples following
Goicolea and Arruda's technique, part of the
challenge is completing a workout without
becoming aroused and jumping in the sack. In
the foreword, editor David Leddick (famous for
compiling scintillating photos of male nudes)
salutes the buff co-authors. "Fooling around
never gets better than this," Leddick writes. And
that may be the more appropriate way to digest
"Fit Together" — an alternative guide for stimu-
lating and health-conscious foreplay.
While "Fit Together" may have some short-
comings as a serious fitness guide, Glen
Mitchell's gorgeous photography is simply out-
standing. The images in this tastefully designed
and beautifully printed book captures both a clas-
sic homoerotism but also serves as a loving por-
trait of a gay couple. Captured in numerous posi-
tions and in several candid moments, Mitchell's
lens portrays Goicolea and Arruda's as beautiful-
ly intimate and versatile. And the cutesy quotes
from the authors provide additional insight into
their relationship as a couple and as workout
partners.
Those of us who enjoy working out with a
partner have been waiting for a book like this for
some time. We've found partner yoga and some
partner stretching, but few real muscle-building
resistance or isometric exercises we can do with
another.
"Fit Together" is an excellent first effort. It
would be nice to see the authors expand on what
they've done to make the exercises more relevant
to couples of varying fitness abilities and with
different fitness goals. Fully and gorgeously pho-
tographed, of course.
