In addition to all this, building permits for private im-
provements to the amount of $487,379 have been issued for
fourteen months ending August 31, 1900.
Our census shows a population of 21,792, a clear gain of
1,269 over last year.
Thus it will be seen that El Paso is on the forward march.
She has all the advantages of a metropolitan city—incompar-
able climate, unsurpassed hostel ries, an alert and intelligent
press, excellent educational advantages, banking institutions—
monuments of strength—officered by conservative men. In short,
a glance at the directories issued from time to time will show
decisively that the citizens of El Paso have good cause to be
proud of their city.
In conclusion, we beg to thank those who have been loyal
to us, rendering material assistance in the publication of this
work, and we trust that our efforts will clearly demonstrate the
fact that "he who minds his own business well succeeds the
