The architects for"Empty Sky" the 9/11 memorial at Liberty State Park in New Jersey say they hadn't planned the poignant sunlight effect.

A decade after terrorists took nearly 3,000 lives in attacks
on New York, Washington D.C. and in the sky over rural
Pennsylvania, a memorial now stands in the empty footprints
of the two towers that have come to symbolize the national
tragedy
Designed by architect Michael Arad and landscape architect
Peter Walker, the National September 11 Memorial features two
twin reflecting pools fed by waterfalls that cascade down from
the top of the 30-foot wall that lines the perimeter.
Each pool is surrounded by trees, which, through their
changing leaves, are meant to represent the passage of time.
The six names of those killed in The World Trade Center
bombing of 1993 join those of the victims who died in the Twin
Towers, the Pentagon and aboard United Flight 93 and are
inscribed on two bronze parapets that line the memorial.
The names are arranged by affiliation. Members of the same

flight crew or employees of the same company are grouped
together. Family members and friends of the victims were able
to make requests that certain names be placed together to repre-
sent family relationships and friendships.
The memorial and museum will be dedicated on Sunday the
10th anniversary of the attacks. The memorial will open to the
public on Monday.
