Creighton Morris is kinesiology major with teacher certification, who is
no less than a math wizard. It became apparent right away that Creighton
was going to be fantastic when he came in the first day and greeted the
teacher and students with a handshake and a smile. Creighton was paired
with a group of junior class boys that required accelerated Math instruction
for success on TAKS. Creighton has been impressive on many dimensions.
First of all, exit-level mathematics is difficult but he fearlessly jumped
right in. Secondly, he was a master at building rapport with the students.
They became so fond of him that they actually asked if he could be their
teacher twice per week! Creighton exhibits both confidence and ability in
the classroom.
Ashton Spence is an English major with teacher certification, who would
like to someday teach. At the time of her assignment, Ashton's teacher
mentor was working with an English Language Learner, a recent immi-
grant from Mexico. She assigned Ashton to the student on Tuesday after-
noons. Ashton spent her first day in observation of him. Her second day
she spent gathering data on his current abilities. By her third visit, she had
produced a carefully constructed plan to improve this student's writing,
which included a scope and sequence. She came to have a good relation-
ship with this young man. Each week she reported back to the teacher im-
provements that she had noted and still more areas of his writing that she
sought to target. Her dedication to the assignment and moreover, the stu-
dent was extremely impressive.
